The Volunteer In Java Programme was created in 2010 by a small group of English teachers who have been working for several years alongside Native Speakers.
The programme was founded by a group of five Sundanese locals:
Irwan Kumis, who has been teaching primary school English for 4 years, as well as working for several years as a guide for Western travellers.
Andri Nasikin, who has been teaching English for years as well as working as a local tour guide. He has been traveling for a few years.
Wildan Arifin, is an English teacher in one of Cianjur high school. He has been teaching English for many years.
Yuan Hendarsyah is an English teacher at the Vocational School, where he has been based for many years. He used to be a guide for Mount Rinjani trek in Lombok for a few years.
Haseum, a web designer who builds this website. Now, he is an internet business consultant in Jakarta.
The programme centres around volunteer teaching in local Primary and Secondary Schools where native speakers can help students and teachers with their conversational English. Although native speakers are preferred, it is often possible for non-native who speaks fluent English to apply.
We try our best to immerse our guests in the local culture and environment, so this is a perfect programme for those interested in learning more about Indonesian culture, cuisine or the Bahasa Indonesia.
