Cianjur Town

Accommodation

Guests will stay with Kumis, who lives with his parents and brother in their family home in a “kampung” (small neighborhood of houses piled atop each other navigated by narrow alleyways) in the heart of Cianjur.  Occasionally guests will stay with Yuan, his wife and two young sons in their home on the outskirts of Cianjur.

In both cases, living with local families is an excellent experience that exposes guests to the real everyday life in Indonesia as they interact with the other residents (including the many children!) of the kampung, engage in the everyday activities of an Indonesian family, and even have the opportunity to learn a bit of Bahasa Indonesia and the West Javanese language of Sundanese. Guests are also able to accompany Kumis’ mother to the local traditional market and to learn how to prepare Indonesian dishes.

Kumis and his family provide accommodation in a private room, transport, unlimited laundry and internet services, and Kumis’ services as a guide to some of the nearby sights.  Guests have the option of providing their own food, or donating 50.000 rupiah per person per day for three meals a day, in which case Kumis will ensure that guests get to eat the best of the Indonesian and Cianjur specialties. Needless to say, the homestay alone is worth the experience!
